Highway 80 Dollar General Nearing Completion

July 6, 2016

Residents in the Pleasant Shade and Defeated communities soon won’t have to travel far for groceries and other household needs.

A new Dollar General Store is being constructed along Highway 80, near the intersection of Highway 85.

The 9,100-square-foot facility sits on a 1.69 acre lot adjacent to one of the county’s EMS ambulance stations (#3).

According to a source with Dollar General, the store is not yet hiring and will instead rely upon temporary employees from other stores to assist with the opening of the store and eventual training of new employees.

A grand opening date has yet to be announced; however, fixtures are being installed this week, and signage has already been placed across the exterior of the store, in addition to the parking lot having been paved and completed.

This is the county’s 4th Dollar General Store. The other three locations include the Carthage store on Highway 25 — located in the Smith County Plaza, Gordonsville — along E. Main Street next to the Gordonsville Highway intersection, and Rome — along Lebanon Highway.

The Rome location is the county’s newest Dollar General, having opened in November 2012. Since opening, it has performed very well, attracting customers from not only the Rock City and Rome communities, but also neighboring Wilson County, with its location proving more convenient to travel to than Lebanon or Carthage.
