Long-time system leader tapped to lead two of the system’s campuses
Gallatin, Tenn. (May 13, 2016) – Today, HighPoint Health System announced that Mike Herman has been named chief executive officer (CEO) of Riverview Regional Medical Center (RRMC) and Trousdale Medical Center (TMC), two of the health system’s facilities. Herman, who has served as chief operating officer of HighPoint Health since 2011, replaces Rod Harkleroad, effective June 6. Harkleroad has accepted the top leadership post at Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC), a Duke LifePoint Healthcare facility in Clyde, NC.
“Rod has done a tremendous job leading these two facilities, and we wish him all the best in his new role,” said Susan Peach, chief executive officer of HighPoint Health System and Sumner Regional Medical Center. “I am genuinely excited to welcome Mike to this role, as I’ve watched him grow into one of the strongest leaders that I know. He will build on the foundation laid by Rod and the teams at these facilities and ensure that these communities have access to the highest quality of care possible.”
Since joining HighPoint Health in 2011, Herman has been instrumental in stabilizing the financial operations of the facilities and has led numerous expansion projects, including the purchase and development of Sumner Station in Gallatin that now houses the Carpenter Cancer Center, a comprehensive facility that provides cutting-edge cancer diagnostics and treatment close to home. Herman has also had a tremendous impact on the four hospitals’ daily operations, driving improved ER door-to-doctor times, implementing state-of-the-art robotic surgical tools, recruiting top physicians and improving overall physician satisfaction and engagement.
Prior to HighPoint, Herman served in a number of leadership positions for HCA, including vice president of operations for Summerville Medical Center in Charleston, SC and senior operations analyst for Doctors Hospital of Augusta in Augusta, Ga. Herman also held a number of progressive roles at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla.
Herman has a bachelor’s degree in food science and human nutrition and a master’s in health administration, both from the University of Florida in Gainesville.
