(Smith County Insider Press) Gordonsville, Tenn. – Early Friday morning, April 8, around 3:45 am, Officer David Petty of the Gordonsville Police Department noticed a vehicle traveling on Gordonsville Highway with no headlights on. Officer Petty attempted to initiate a traffic stop not the vehicle, at which time, the vehicle fled. The vehicle entered I-40 West bound and began traveling at speeds over 100 mph.
2-3 minutes into the pursuit, Officer Petty observed the vehicle toss some type of white powdery substance out of the car window. The substance sprayed the windshield of Officer Petty’s patrol car. After chasing the vehicle into Wilson County and on to State Route 840, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Lebanon Police Department assisted in the chase.
As the chase approached Smyrna, Officer Petty’s patrol car was running low on fuel, and he was advised by Chief Harris to terminate the pursuit.
The vehicle appeared to be a white Chevrolet Corsa. The license plate on the vehicle came back not on file. The vehicle and its occupants are still at large. If you recognize the vehicle, please contact the Gordonsville Police Department immediately. A state-wide BOLO has been placed on with the vehicle description.
