(Smith County Insider Press) Gordonsville, Tenn. – The Smith County Sheriff’s Department received a dispatch around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night that a prowler was potentially at Keeler’s Market on Granville Highway in Elmwood. When the Sheriff’s Department arrived in the area, a suspicious vehicle was spotted and was intercepted for a routine traffic stop. During this time, the vehicle did not comply and fled northeast on Granville Highway towards Jackson County.
The pursuit traveled some 15 miles on Granville Highway before the driver of the vehicle veered left on Gladdice Highway, and traveled some mile and a half before making another left on Schelley Road. Soon after turning onto Schelley Road, the driver turned off of the road onto a unmarked dirt road, fled his vehicle, and ran into the nearby wooded area.
As of 2:00 a.m. Monday morning, the driver of the vehicle has not been found and is still at large. The vehicle he was driving, a gray Dodge pickup truck, was removed from Schelley Road by Dale’s Towing.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. A majority of the Granville Highway pursuit and the vehicle abandonment on Schelley Road was in Jackson County.
We will report more on the incident when the details become available to us.
