An attempted traffic stop by a Smith County deputy evolved into a high-speed chase that crossed into Trousdale County before finally ending in Macon County on September 27, 2020.

Deputy Nathan Williams attempted to initiate a traffic stop with the silver Honda Accord after vehicle registration indicated the vehicle was owned by Shanna Washer, an individual with active local warrants. However, according to the police report, the driver of the Honda, Robby Bowman, ignored the deputy’s request to the traffic stop and began to flee at speeds up to 100 mph on Highway 25 westbound in Smith County.

Bowman continued to pass other motorists using the middle lane of the highway. Eventually, the Honda lost its front driver side tire; however, Bowman continued to drive into Trousdale County and finally Macon County, where the vehicle stopped on Sycamore Valley Road.

Upon search, a bag belonging to Bowman was located in the vehicle. The bag held meth and marijuana. After being read his Miranda Rights, according to the police report, Bowman agreed to speak without an attorney and admitted he had ingested meth and other drugs during the pursuit. Bowman was transported to a hospital due to a possible overdose.

Bowman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
