A Hendersonville man travelling through Smith County on Interstate 40 was arrested on multiple charges following a traffic stop Tuesday, December 6.
Trooper Adam Cothron of the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to call about a vehicle travelling eastbound that was reportedly exhibiting poor driving behavior.
Cothron spotted the vehicle at mile marker 267 and initiated a traffic stop on it.
Upon contact with the driver, identified as 30-year-old Joshua Reid of Hendersonville, Cothron noticed he was twitching and appeared nervous, and his pupils were dilated. Cothron also saw a white substance on Reid’s fingers, according to his report.
According to Cothron’s report, Reid admitted to using cocaine and had a puncture mark in the bend of his left arm. According to the report, there were several pieces of rock substance found in the driver’s seat. Inside the center console, a spoon and straw were located The spoon had a burnt spot, having been used for heating cocaine. The straw appeared to have a white substance inside of it.
Cothron administered the standardized field sobriety test to Reid, of which he performed poorly.
Reid was arrested and transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
He is charged with driving under the influence, simple possession of schedule II and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
