Gordonsville wins big in first round matchup against Whitwell

The Gordonsville Tigers scored early and often in their first round matchup against Whitwell on Friday, winning 49-0.

The Gordonsville Tigers scored 28 points in the first quarter, with Darrel Holt getting the scoring going first with seven minutes left in the first quarter off of a one yard rush to go up 7-0. Holt was able to get his second touchdown of the night following a blocked punt by Mitchell Chapman, to make the score 14-0.

The Tigers defense kept up their momentum, with Matthew Albritton getting an interception to get the ball back and Lucas Carter scoring a touchdown on the ensuing drive to go up 21, and Chapman was able to wrap up the first quarter’s scoring by recovering a fumble in the end zone to go up 28-0.

Darrel Holt and the Tigers found the endzone again with 8 minutes left in the second quarter with a 48 yard touchdown run, and Holt got his fourth touchdown of the night with under a minute left in the half running it in from 4 yards out to go up 42-0.

With the clock rolling in the second half due to point difference, the Tigers found the endzone one more time off of a scoop and score by Landon Baker to make the score 49-0 which ended up being the final score.

The Tigers will host the Clay County Bulldogs on November 13th for the second round of the playoffs.
