The holiday season is often considered the most wonderful time of the year, but to many in the community, it can be the season of struggle.
To make this Christmas a bit merrier and brighter for some of its students and their families, Gordonsville High School is offering family members the GHS Angel Tree assistance program.
In hopes of keeping the process stress-free and completely confidential, Gordonsville High School has an Angel Tree Request Form linked to the school’s webpage, https://gordonsvillehigh.smithcoedu.com. The request form is located under the “Students” tab and is also featured as “Recent News” on the homepage.
The form is for a parent or guardian to request assistance in purchasing Christmas gifts for their GHS student(s) in grades 7-12.
All request form submissions are completely confidential. Request forms are currently being accepted and will continue until 12 p.m., Monday, December 9.
More information concerning the GHS Angel Tree Request Forms can be found on the school’s webpage and in the request form itself.
However, if you would like to offer your own holiday cheer, Gordonsville High School would like local businesses, organizations, and churches to contribute to Gordonsville High School’s Angel Tree “Stuff a Backpack” program.
The “Stuff a Backpack” program is exactly as it sounds…stuffing new backpacks with items that are genuinely a need for many students. The stuffed backpacks will be issued to any GHS student who is a recipient of the GHS Angel Tree. Any leftover backpacks will continue to be issued in the future through the GHS Comfort Closet.
GHS is asking that the backpacks and all items inside to be new. A specific list of items to “stuff” in the backpacks are as follows:
GIRL BACKPACK: 1 regular size bottle of shampoo and conditioner, 1 box of regular tampons & 1 box of regular pads, 1 regular size deodorant, 1 regular size bottle of body wash, 1 regular size bottle of body spray, 1 hair brush, 1 pack of scrunchies/pony tail holders, 1 regular size tube of toothpaste, 1 soft toothbrush, 2 sticks of Chapstick, 2 pairs of warm socks, 1 beanie/warm scarf, 1 pair of warm gloves, 1 small fleece blanket.
BOY BACKPACK: 1 regular size bottle of shampoo and conditioner, 1 regular size deodorant, 1 regular size bottle of body wash, 1 regular size bottle of body spray, 1 comb, 1 regular size tube of toothpaste, 1 soft toothbrush, 2 sticks of Chapstick, 2 pairs of warm socks, 1 beanie/warm scarf, 1 pair of warm gloves, 1 small fleece blanket.
Please add ONLY items specified in the lists to the backpacks.
Also, GHS is asking that backpacks NOT to be delivered by individuals to the school. Local businesses, organizations, and churches may bring their donated “Stuffed Backpacks” to GHS Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., now until 12 p.m., December 18.
If you are an individual in the community who would like to offer help during the holidays or anytime during the school year, GHS’s Comfort Closet is currently accepting donations for the following items: small individual containers/boxes of cereal, individually wrapped snacks such as PB crackers/cheese crackers, individual cups of microwavable Rice A Roni or Chef Boyardee or Mac & Cheese, jars of peanut butter, trail mixes, Pop Tarts.
Comfort Closet donations may be delivered to GHS Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Students who need items from the Comfort Closet can visit Angela Reed’s classroom anytime or may fill out a confidential Comfort Closet Request Form on the GHS school website. The Comfort Closet request form is located under the “Students” tab and is currently featured in “Recent News” on the homepage.
