Smith County Insider is excited to partner with Mrs. Angela Reed’s journalism class at Gordonsville High School to feature GHS Spotlights, which are articles written by students in Mrs. Reed’s classes.

Gordonsville High School has been raising money through several fundraisers. Since mid-November, students have devoted their time to raise funds for many clubs and to help others.
FCA collected money every Friday to buy bikes at Providence Marketplace for underprivileged children. Students could donate $1 at FCA, which eventually led to purchasing two bikes.
FCA Sponsor Lisa Dillingham featured the fundraiser on Jack FM and was thrilled with the response.
American Red Cross teamed with HOSA December 5 to encourage students to donate blood.
To show the organization’s appreciation, American Red Cross awards one senior with a $500 scholarship and an hour of earned community service. There were several students and faculty who donated blood.
“It will help somebody in the future that needs it more than I do,” said Sophomore Beth Wright.
For other students, it has an even bigger meaning to them.
Sophomore Megan Greenhaw stated, “When I was a baby that’s what kept me alive. I had blood transfusions, so I think it’s very important.”
For every one person who donates, three lives are saved.
Sponsor Beth Jenkins and FCCLA held fundraisers this month to raise money for their organization. These included selling cookbooks and having a reverse bake sale.
Jenkins stated, “The reverse bake sale has been established and a lot of people order from it.”
In the sale, customers could order a variety of items and FCCLA provided the order. These items included pies and other desserts for this holiday season.
The objective was not only to raise money for their program, but also to help the students with marketing skills.
