Fugitive Located at Rome Boat Ramp

(Smith County Insider Press) Carthage, Tenn. – On Friday, December 18, Deputy Nick Campbell of the Smith County Sheriff’s Department was conducting a routine patrol of Rome Boat Ramp, at which time he observed a parked van. Upon examining the van, it was found to be empty. Deputy Campbell then announced, “Sheriff’s Department” at which time he received the response, “we’re over here,” coming from the water’s edge.

Upon making his way to the water, Deputy Campbell located two individuals fishing. Deputy Campbell contacted dispatch to check both of the individuals driver’s licenses. One of the individuals was identified as Charlie Whitaker. Dispatch informed Deputy Campbell that Whitaker had an active warrant out of Trousdale County.

Deputy Campbell then proceeded to place Whitaker under arrest, at which time he instructed Whitaker to empty his pockets. A pill bottle was located in his pocket that contained 12 pink pills. The pills were identified to be Alprazolam, which is a Schedule IV drug.

Whitaker was placed under arrest and transported to Smith County Jail Facility for booking.

Whitaker was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
