The Spot (Youth and Family Resource) recently partnered with Brandon Mackey of Carthage Barber Shop to offer free haircuts to children as they started the new school year. Carthage Barbershop is located at 104 Main Street in Carthage.
The Spot loves to partner with caring folks in the community to offer resources to our students and families. Brandon began giving free haircuts for children in need about 4 years ago and it has grown every year since then until grew larger and outgrew what he could do on his own.
Brandons said “This year, I reached out to some awesome barbers and stylists that I have met in my career and they were happy to get on board. Having grown up in poverty, my back to school haircut usually took place on the front porch. so being able to help kids go to school their first day looking and feeling their best is a huge honor for me!. It is something I hope to continue and grow larger every year. None of this would be possible without the help of our community and I am so proud of the impact we have had on the kids in our community.”
Another wonderful community partner included Christ Community Church in Gordonsville! This caring and giving congregation provided free school supplies, hair care products and pizza for the families as they came and waited their turn for haircuts. The Spot gave away free t-shirts and the kids played games while they waited to include: air hockey; Connect 4; and Corn Hole. It was a wonderful day with 110 students receiving haircuts from these amazing professionals: Logan Dickens with Carthage Barbershop, Danta Moseley with Carthage Barbershop; Brandon Mackey with Carthage Barbershop; Johnny Vantrease with Johnnys Barbershop; Lauren Foye with Heads Up Haircutting Center in Lebanon; Hannah Brooke Ellis with Southern Shears; Lenae Hancock with Mandy’s Salon and Spa.
