Due to concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Smith County Schools announced Saturday night that all schools will be closed the week of Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20, 2020.
During this time, all facilities will be closed and activities will be cancelled with the exception of the Smith County School Nutrition Department.
The cafeterias at Smith County High School and Gordonsville Elementary School will be open for breakfast and lunch, and meals will also be transported to Union Heights Elementary and Defeated Elementary during the designated breakfast and lunch times.
Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Free breakfast and lunch will be provided for any child age 18 or younger. The child must be present to receive a free pick-up or eat-in meal.
The menu on Monday (03/16/20) at SCHS, DES, and UHS is Chicken/Sausage Biscuit, Juice/Milk for breakfast, and Ham and Cheese croissant w/carrots, chips, milk, and fruit for lunch. The menu at GES is assorted pastries and cereal, juice, peaches, and milk for breakfast, and ham and cheese sandwich, carrots, chips, fruit, and milk for lunch.
On Tuesday (03/17/20), assorted breakfast items will be served for breakfast. St. Patty’s Day chicken nuggets, Ma’s roll, cream potatoes, green beans, fruit, and milk will be served for lunch.
On Wednesday (03/18/20), assorted breakfast items will be served for breakfast. Ham and cheese sandwich, baked chips, pork and beans, fruit, and milk will be served for lunch.
On Thursday (03/19/20), assorted breakfast items will be served for breakfast. Pizza mutable, baked chips, fresh veggies with dip, fruit, and milk will be served for lunch.
On Friday (03/20/20), assorted breakfast items will be served for breakfast. Ham and cheese sandwich, baked chips, broccoli with dip, fruit, and milk will be served for lunch.
Spring break will remain as scheduled on March 23 through March 27, 2020. Breakfast and lunch will not be served during Spring Break.
Smith County Schools are scheduled to re-open on Monday, March 30, 2020.
