(Smith County Insider Press) Gordonsville, Tenn. – On Thursday morning, March 31, Smith County 911 received several calls reporting a multiple vehicle accident on I-40 East bound around the 262 mile marker. As authorities started to arrive near the scene, they had to travel on the right hand shoulder of the interstate due to traffic already being backed up.
Authorities arrived on scene to find five vehicles had been in an accident, two tractor-trailer trucks, a SUV, a pickup truck, and a sports car. Trooper Tramel of the Tennessee Highway Patrol worked the scene. He informed Smith County Insider that a gold Nissan Armada driven by Anissa Bond hydroplaned and struck a white Ford F-150 driven by Kevin Little. Traveling directly behind the SUV and pickup truck were two tractor-trailer trucks with a small red Mazda in-between them. Both of the tractor trailers locked up their brakes, causing them to sandwich the small sports car in-between them. The tractor-trailer truck in the rear, driven by Carlos Moss, then swerved to the left and struck the guard rail, causing his load of sheet aluminum to roll down the embankment. The tractor-trailer in the front, driven by Autry Spencer, came to a rest on the right hand shoulder a few hundred feet ahead, with the red Mazda, driven by Carman Dawson, still pinned underneath it.
Carman Dawson and Autry Spencer were transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
Anissa Bond was cited with a “Due Care” citation because she initiated the accident.
I-40 East bound was partially shut down for several hours while all of the wreckage was cleaned up.
