At 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020, the Tennessee Department of Health announced the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Smith County, TN. This brings the state-wide total to 1,203 confirmed cases and 6 deaths in Tennessee.
Smith County Mayor Jeff Mason released the following statement:
Today, March 27, 2020 the TN Department of Health confirmed that a resident of Smith County has tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The patient has been placed in quarantine and is recovering at home. The people who may have come in contact with this person are being contacted.Please do not panic or go by up all the groceries! Check on elderly neighbors to see if you can help with any needs they have!Please remember now more than ever before to follow the CDC suggestions.Stay at home if possible!No social gatherings of 10 or more!Maintain a 6ft barrier between you and others at a minimum!Wash your hands! Wash your hands!
