(Smith County Insider Press) Carthage, Tenn. — Around 8:17 a.m. Monday morning, December 18, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a rollover accident with injuries in the area of 288 Dixon Springs Highway.
When authorities arrived on scene, they found a blue 1994 Chevy pickup truck on its roof in the ditch. According to Trooper Troy Withers of the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s report, the vehicle was traveling South on Highway 25 (Dixon Springs Highway), when it crossed the center line and traveled off the left side of the roadway. Upon exiting the roadway, the vehicle entered the ditch line, struck two culverts, and went airborne. The driver was ejected and pinned under the vehicle when it came to a final rest on its roof.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as David H. West, 68, of the Riddleton community. West was pronounced dead at the scene.
Smith County EMS, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Smith County Rescue Squad, Central District Fire Department, and Riddleton/Dixon Springs Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.
Dale’s Towing & Recovery removed the vehicle from the scene.
