(Smith County Insider Press) South Carthage, Tenn. – The Annual Smith County Fair Picnic was held on Monday, February 22, at the Smith County Ag Center in South Carthage. The picnic began with opening statements from the Smith County Fair President, Anthony Apple and the invocation was given by County Mayor, Michael Nesbitt. A BBQ meal was served to all that attended.
After the meal, Anthony Apple recognized that the Smith County Fair had won 2nd place in the state-wide county display contest. Mr. Apple also announced that the 2015 fair had won the “Most Improved Fair Award” at the State Fair Convention in Division A. After those announcements, Mrs. Laura Piper was asked to give the annual financial report. The 2015 fair’s net profit was approximately $30,000. The profit from each years fair is used to reinvest into the fair grounds. This year the money will be used toward more bleachers at the outdoor arena for tractor pulls and other events. This years funds will also be used to improve the pioneer village that was introduced in 2015.
Following the financial report, nominees were taken for the 2016 fair executives and voted on. They remain the same from 2015. At that time, door prizes were given to 21 attendees and the meeting was adjourned.
Mark you calendar for the 2016 fair. It will be held July 25 – 30, 2016.
