Dump truck and sedan collide, one person airlifted

Emergency responders reported to a call around 11:30 a.m. at the 900 block of Dixon Springs Highway on Wednesday, May 10, 2022 involving a dump truck loaded with gravel and a passenger vehicle.

Smith County Rescue, Smith County EMS, Smith County Sheriff’s Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Riddleton Fire Department worked together to secure the scene, direct traffic, extricate and treat the driver of the passenger vehicle. The driver of the passenger vehicle, who was identified as Hazel Farley, 72, was then airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center for additional care. The crash remains under investigation. Charges for Farley were listed as pending in the THP report.

The dump truck driver was identified as James Heinske, 57. The accident occurred when the passenger vehicle traveling southbound on Hwy 25 in Dixon Springs attempted to make a “left turn maneuver” and was struck by the dump truck that was traveling northbound. The dump truck over-turned and lost the load of gravel. The driver of the dump truck was not injured and no charges were listed on the THP report. The road was closed and traffic was re-directed for a while in order to upright the dump truck and clear the gravel from the road.
