The Gordonsville Police Department and the Smith County Sheriff’s Office together located drugs and large sums of cash from the vehicle of a man who was allegedly passed out in a Gordonsville gas station parking lot on December 22.
Gordonsville Officer Dustin Holder and K9 Sgt. Ridge Long observed Austin Savage passed out behind the steering wheel of a black Lexus near a gas pump in the Gordonsville Keystop parking lot.
Officers also noticed that Savage’s vehicle was still running, and the gear shift was in drive while Savage still had his foot pressured on the brake.
Eventually, Savage woke up disoriented which caused him to lift his foot from the brake, causing the car to begin rolling forward. After several commands from the officers to stop the car, Savage put the car in park and was asked to exit the vehicle. Officers noted a smell of marijuana from within the Lexus.
According to the police report, $4,600 was found in Savage’s pants pocket during a search. A vehicle search uncovered marijuana, Oxycodone, a Suboxone strip, a Xanax bar, as well as an additional $6,086.
Found in the vehicle’s trunk was a Taurus G 3 9 mm weapon.
As the investigation continued, inconsistent statements from Savage, who stated he had been on the way to the airport in Nashville to fly to San Francisco, California to visit family, led to the seizure of items in accordance to Tennessee Law.
It was discovered Savage had previous drug sale charges, along with a previous DUI, in both California and Tennessee.
Savage was booked into the Smith County Jail.
