(Smith County Insider Press) Gordonsville, Tenn. – Several wrecks occurred on I-40 East bound during the Easter weekend due to traffic backed up construction traffic. It is estimated that at least seven wrecks were reported between Friday (4/14/17 and Sunday (4/16/17). Three of the wrecks occurred in less than one hour on Friday afternoon.
I-40 has been reduced to one lane at the 263 mile marker East bound due to bridge deck repair. TDOT estimates the construction will be completed on or before May 26, 2017.
As a result of the construction, Highway 70 and 141 in Smith County have seen an influx of traffic due to motorists taking an alternate route to bypass construction traffic.
