(Smith County Insider Press) Carthage, Tenn. – On Thursday night, April 7, the Carthage City Council held their monthly meeting. One item on the agenda was to address appointing a new Chief of Police, due to current the Chief turning in his resignation to retire.
Chief John Hogan addressed the council and stated that he had worked over 48 years in law enforcement and that he believed it was time to give it up and spend more time with his family. Chief Hogan’s retirement will be effective as of June 30, 2016.
The council then began the process to appoint a new Chief to replace Chief Hogan. After much discussion, it was decided to appoint Sgt. Brit Davis of the Carthage Police Department to become the new Chief of Police effective April 8, 2016. The council voted 5 to 1 in favor of Sgt. Davis’ appointment.
Chief Hogan plans to spend the next few weeks and months training Davis to become the new Chief. Davis has been an employee of the Carthage City Police Department since January of 2004.
