Damage reported in Smith County from overnight tornado

March 3, 2020

Parts of Smith County were in the path of the devastating tornadoes that passed through Middle Tennessee in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

A tornado passed through southern Smith County just after midnight, leaving structural damage and downed trees and power lines in its wake.

According to a statement by Smith County EMS Director Jeff Crockett, the damage path stretched from Grant to New Middleton to Agee Branch to Maple Street in Gordonsville and across Carthage Junction/Preston Road.

Smith County EMS transported a total of 5 patients to Riverview Regional Medical Center from damaged structures in two different locations in the county.

During the storm, Smith County First Responders were called to mile marker 254 on I-40 Westbound, near the New Middleton exit, where strong wind had overturned two semi trucks on the interstate.

Thank you to all of our wonderful Smith County First Responders for risking their lives to keep our citizens safe, and thanks to Upper Cumberland Weather for keeping our citizens informed as the storm passed through.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the storms.
