Crump Paris Park receives $137,000 in renovations

June 13, 2018

May 17, 2018 Smith County celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated Crump Paris Park located on Gordonsville Hwy.

The renovation project totaled approximately $137,000 and was funded in part by a $60,00 grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Local Parks and Recreation Fund. The project denoted a complete renovation of the present facility including new surfacing of both the basketball and tennis courts, new fencing, new LED lighting, new tennis net, and a new parking lot that is ADA accessibile.

Mayor Michael Nesbitt and the Smith County government understand the importance of recreational opportunities for the citizens and applied for the grant in 2014 with the assistance of the Upper Cumberland Development District. “Crump Paris Park is a tremendous asset to Smith County. Our citizens rely on public resources such as these, to provide safe and fun places for our youth. We are very pleased that the State of TN partnered with Smith County to improve this asset,” said Michael Nesbitt, Mayor of Smith County. “I believe this project has placed Crump Paris Park in a position to serve the people of Smith for many years to come.”

The Upper Cumberland Development District supported Smith County through the application and administration of the project. Smith County native Virginia Solimine relishes the opportunity to work in the place she calls home. “It is a pleasure to work on projects in Smith County and have the opportunity to improve the quality of life for my fellow residents.”

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for citizens of Tennessee and to be stewards of our natural environment. The Local Parks & Recreation Fund furthers their goal of providing quality outdoor recreational experiences and a cleaner, safer environment.

The Upper Cumberland Development District provides regional planning and assistance to the 14-county Upper Cumberland region to promote economic growth and community enhancement. Find UCDD on the web at www.ucdd.org and at facebook.com/UCDDconnect.
