CPD Responds to Suspicious Male, Discovers Meth and Used Needles

(Smith County Insider Press) – On December 15, 2019, Patrolman Martin and Patrolman Baiera with the Carthage Police Department were dispatched to College Avenue to investigate a suspicious male in dark clothes.

According to the police report, the patrolmen made contact with a male in a large black coat, identified as Ren Coker (22, Lebanon). Coker gave consent for Patrolman Martin to search a backpack he was carrying. Inside the backpack was a pill bottle with 12 Gabapentin pills inside which did not belong in the bottle and for which Coker did not have a prescription.

According to the police report, there was also a lock box located in the back pack, which Coker gave consent to be searched. Inside the box was a small baggie with a crystal like substance, a bag of used needles, 2 metal spoons with residue, and a yellow oxycodone pill. Coker was placed under arrest and read his Miranda Rights.

Coker is charged with possession of methamphetamine, 2 counts of possession of controlled substances, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
