(Smith County Insider Press) South Carthage, Tenn. – Monday morning, August 3rd, around 7:30 a.m., Smith County Mayor, Michael Nesbitt, was injured while assisting with the fair cleanup. Mayor Nesbitt was helping to disassemble one of the large tents when one of the tall poles fell and struck him in the back. Mayor Nesbitt was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where they determined he had crushed his C7 vertebrae. Nesbitt is scheduled for surgery Monday afternoon.
Mayor Nesbitt is in stable condition and in good spirits. Smith County Insider was informed that he was more concerned about missing a day of work than his injured back.
