County Halloween Events Draw Thousands of People

November 8, 2021

Halloween in Smith County was especially Spook-tacular this year. Events in Gordonsville and Carthage drew crowds larger than anticipated. Additionally, city streets, sub-divisions and neighborhoods enjoyed the return of  children and families venturing out for trick-or-treating.  The increased Halloween enthusiasm seemed to mark an end to year plus social shut-down from the pandemic and a return to family fun and community celebration.

The Gordonsville Halloween Bash organizers prepared for a crowd of over 2,000 but were surprised when they quickly exceeded those expectations. Over 50 businesses, churches, community groups, clubs and families came together to make the event a success. Tiny superheros, pretty princesses, various monsters, goblins, ghouls and dozens of inflatable character costumes enjoyed the safety and security of Main Street being closed to traffic. Organizers have plans for an even bigger event next year including more vendors and family fun.

Hometown Halloween in downtown Carthage was also great success. Within the first hour, attendance had already doubled any previous year. Opportunities for family fun included activities on the lawn, the haunt, food vendors and trunk or treat. The crowd of trick or treaters, parents and people out for Halloween fun extended from 2nd Avenue to Ward Street in front of the Historic Courthouse. Organizers were excited to offer the expanded event and look forward to adding more fun for next year.
