NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be closing the Cordell Hull Bridge in Smith County next week for its annual inspection.
Due to the age and condition of the steel members, the bridge’s superstructure must be inspected each year.
The bridge will be closed from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day between Monday, June 24, and Friday, June 28 while consultants from Michael Baker International complete the inspection.
Drivers will have to utilize State Route 24 / US 70N and SR 25/Carthage Bypass to navigate around the closure during the daytime hours.
Drivers are urged to slow down, move over, and allow for extra time to travel through the area. The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee carries the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of up to $500.
