A convicted felon was arrested in the Hiwassee community during an investigation conducted by the Smith County Sheriff’s Department Friday, September 23.
Sgt. Junior Fields responded to 557 Hiwassee Road after receiving information that 41-year-old Roger “Boo” Carpenter Jr., a convicted felon, was in possession of a large amount of marijuana and firearms.
Upon arrival, Fields spoke with Carpenter and the owner of the residence and advised them that he had reliable information that a large amount of marijuana was present at the residence, according to Fields’ report.
According to the report, Carpenter admitted that he did in fact have marijuana, but he stated he did not have a firearm.
When asked how much marijuana he had, Carpenter stated he had “enough,” according to the report. He then offered to take Fields inside and show him the marijuana.
Fields was led inside the residence by Carpenter and shown a safe pulled out from underneath his bed, according to the report.
Upon opening the safe, Fields observed a large zip lock bag containing marijuana at an estimated weight of over a half pound. Carpenter was also found to be in possession of a set of digital scales and a grinder. Also located inside the safe were two 40 mg Oxymorphone pills (Schedule II), according to the report.
Carpenter was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
He is charged with Manufacture/Delivery/Sell of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Controlled Substances and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
