In a continued effort to combat prescription drug misuse and promote community wellness, the Community Wellness Alliance, in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services, is hosting a Drug Take Back Day at Smith County Pharmacy on October 21 from 10 AM to 1 PM.
This event provides residents with a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired medications. Improper disposal of prescription drugs can lead to environmental harm or drug misuse, making events like this crucial for public health and safety.
In addition to drug collection, free medication lock boxes will be available while supplies last. These lock boxes are designed to help individuals securely store their medications at home, reducing the risk of accidental poisoning or theft.
We will also be giving away free Deterra medication disposal bags—a safe, at-home solution for disposing of prescription and over-the-counter medications. These bags deactivate drugs safely and can be thrown away in household trash.
To further support medication safety and organization, attendees will also receive free medication pill dispensers.
The initiative is a vital part of the Tennessee Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services’ strategy to prevent substance abuse and raise awareness about medication safety in local communities.
Community members are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted medications and receive helpful tools to protect their households.
