Colonoscopy finds cancer, surgery at Riverview Regional saves life

January 11, 2018

Smith County resident, Tracy Hackett Woodard, shares her experience of how the staff at Riverview Regional saved her life.

Tracy wasn’t feeling well. A lab test indicated internal bleeding. A colonoscopy at Riverview Regional Medical Center revealed the cause: colon cancer. Tracy received a transfusion and was impressed by Riverview’s quality care and the staff’s caring attitude.

Once her condition was stabilized, Tracy was scheduled for surgery to remove the cancer. She was pleased to learn that the team from her colonoscopy would be doing the surgery. Following her successful surgery, Tracy was touched that every member of the team stopped by her room on a daily basis. “Where do you receive care like that but in a small town?” she asks with a smile.
