Two children missing from South Carolina are now safe thanks to a quick-thinking traffic stop made by Smith County Sheriff Steve Hopper.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office received a BOLO out of Cottageville, South Carolina, on Friday, December 2, for two infants (twins) who were with their non-custodial mother, 27-year-old Amanda Wills of Riddleton, Tennessee. There is an active ex-parte family court order placing the children in the custody of their father.
Wills was thought to be travelling to her home state of Tennessee, possibly to Carthage, Cookeville or Hartsville, and they were likely travelling in a silver, 2007 Dodge Durango with Tennessee tags.
Sheriff Hopper spotted a vehicle matching the one in the BOLO’s description travelling on Gordonsville Highway and initiated a traffic stop on it in front of Crump Paris Park.
Hopper identified the driver as Wills, and the two infants reported missing were in the vehicle.
Wills has an active warrant for custodial interference out of South Carolina, which includes full extradition.
Wills was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Jail Facility, charged with being a fugitive from justice.
