(Smith County Insider Press) Defeated, Tenn. – Around 7pm on Tuesday night, March 28, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) with possible injuries around the 300 block of Defeated Creek Highway.
When authorities arrived on scene, they found a 1997 S-10 Blazer in the ditch with a large cedar tree laying on top of it. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Vicki Key.
According to Trooper Ron Smith of the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s report, Vicki Key was traveling South on Defeated Creek Highway when she crossed the center line and ran off of the roadway. Upon exiting the roadway, the vehicle struck a large cedar tree. The tree then fell on top of the vehicle.
There were two passengers in the vehicle, Eddie Key and Larry Bowman. Smith County Rescue Squad was called to the scene to assist in extricating, Larry Bowman, due to a small tree pinning the vehicle’s door shut.
Larry Bowman was airlifted by Vanderbilt LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Bowman’s condition is unknown at this time.
Vicky and Eddie Key were transported from the scene by Smith County EMS.
Vicki Key was cited for failure to exercise due care, financial responsibility, and driving left of center.
The vehicle was removed from the scene by Dale’s Towing & Recovery.
