At the Gordonsville Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Logan Hudson and Dr. Michael Towns provide care to creatures great and small.
The clinic first opened its doors in February 2019, largely thanks to Dr. Hudson, who is a Smith County native.
After graduating from veterinary school at Lincoln Memorial University in May 2018, Logan knew that he wanted to come back home to start his practice.
Dr. Towns, who owns veterinary clinics in Macon and Trousdale counties, thought Gordonsville would be a logical choice because he and his team frequently come to the Smith County area on farm calls.
Currently, only small animals are treated in-clinic at the Gordonsville office, but Dr. Towns and Dr. Hudson have big plans for the future, including offering boarding and grooming services and constructing a haul-in facility for livestock behind the clinic.
The Gordonsville Veterinary Clinic is equipped for all types of small animal medicine and surgery, and they have a digital X-ray machine and a CBC blood machine for in-clinic testing. The clinic also does some breeding and AI work, as well as C-sections when needed.
All large animal needs can be taken care of on farm calls, and all on-call veterinarians have a fully stocked ambulatory truck so that they can be well-equipped wherever they are needed.
The Gordonsville Veterinary Clinic can work cattle and provide normal herd health management services like vaccination, castration, de-horning, pregnancy checking, and semen testing for bulls. The veterinarians can also take care of any medical and surgical needs for cattle, like delivering calves, fixing prolapses, and other emergency work.
For horses, the clinic provides herd health management, vaccinations, teeth floating, sheath cleaning, reproductive care, and emergency work.
In the near future, Dr. Towns plans to construct a facility for livestock behind the clinic, which will provide a safe working area for both the veterinarians and the animals in an attempt to better meet the needs of local livestock producers.
The staff at the clinic is also in the process of renovating the downstairs area of their building, where they plan to offer boarding and grooming services for small animals.
With passionate veterinarians leading the practice and plenty of plans for expansion, the future for the Gordonsville Veterinary Clinic looks bright.
