Arrest made at I-40 Welcome Center in Smith County

(Smith County Insider Press)—On October 26, 2018, Smith County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Ridge Long made an arrest at the Welcome Center on I-40 in Smith County. Mr. Raymond Maddle (54, Cookeville) was arrested on multiple drug charges.

According to the police report, Sergeant Long observed that Maddle had dilated pupils upon approaching him in his vehicle.

Maddle admitted to having smoked marijuana, and he revealed that he had a joint inside his vehicle. Sergeant Long deployed K-9 Constance for a free-air-sniff, and she indicated positive for the presence of marijuana.

According to the police report, 0.5 grams of methamphetamine, 0.5 grams of marijuana, 3 cut straws, and a clear glass pipe with residue were located during a search of the vehicle. Maddle claimed ownership of the items.

Maddle was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking.

Maddle is charged with one count of felony possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of possession of controlled substances.
