On February 12, 2020, officers from the Carthage Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at Smith County Discount Tobacco in Carthage. The incident occurred just after 9:00 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, the store clerk told them that a masked man had entered the store and demanded that she open the register. According to the police report, the man was brandishing a gun.
The store clerk opened the register and gave the suspect the money. The suspect made off with over $200 in cash.
The suspect is described as a 6 foot tall male with a slim build. At the time of the robbery, he was reported as wearing a gray hoodie and a black mask and carrying a black handgun.
According to the police report, the owners of the store told police that their camera system had been down for several days. Officers also checked the cameras at surrounding businesses, but no video footage of the incident was captured.
Extra police presence was requested in the area last week.
