Over 70 Farmers Attend Haylage Field Day

May 5, 2017

On April 15, the Smith County UT Extension partnered with ACI Distributors to host a Haylage Field Day. The field day was hosted at Charles McKinney’s farm in Gordonsville.

70+ farmers attended to view live demonstration of high moisture hay being harvested and wrapped and to learn how haylage can minimize harvest loss and save time. The farmers also saw how haylage can allow them to produce higher quality feed in less time and they heard from from experts in the industry regarding their experiences with haylage.

Haylage, also known as round bale silage, is another approach to preserving forage. Haylage is simply forage that is baled at a higher moisture content than dry hay and then stored in a sealed plastic wrap.
