Since 1939, the month of June has been used to help promote dairy food products and the hard-working men and women who produce them. As excellent sources of calcium, vitamin D and potassium, dairy foods like milk, yogurt, and cheese are smart choices to add to your grocery cart.
While Tennessee has 205 dairy farms, Smith County has only one remaining dairy, Tisdale Dairy Farm. Abby Malone, our June Dairy Month chairperson was able to tour this dairy to learn a little bit more about how milk gets from the farm to the grocery store shelves. Like 98% of dairy farms, Tisdale dairy is family owned. They not only take pride in the safety of their product and the health of their animals, but call most of their cows by name. Consumers can feel confident that the milk on their grocery store shelves is safe and produced by farmers who care.
