Several Smith County children were treated to the experience of a lifetime on, December 13, 2022 at the annual Smith County Sheriff’s Office Santa’s Shoppers program.
Each year, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office and the Smith County Chamber of Commerce partner to offer this exciting opportunity for children in need to bond with local law enforcement and make lasting Christmas memories.
Officers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Gordonsville Police Department, the South Carthage Police Department, the Carthage Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office and several other agencies including the Gordonsville and Carthage Fire Departments gathered at the Carthage Walmart to shop with and buy Christmas presents for local children.
The evening began at the Smith County Courts and Jail Facility, and children who shopped with the officers were able to ride in police cars and work the lights and sirens all the way to Walmart.
“We want to extend a thank you to all those who donated and helped make the program a success this year,” said Smith County Jail Administrator Beth Davis.
This year, 256 children participated in the Santa’s Shoppers program. Over $30,000 was raised for this years program through contributions from businesses, individuals, and community organizations.
