(Smith County Insider Press) Carthage, Tenn. – On Sunday, November 5, the Smith County Veteran’s Day Parade took place in downtown Carthage. Hundreds of people lined the streets to cheer on the parade as it passed. The parade was led with the Smith County Sheriff and the Carthage City Police Chief. The parade also included the boy scouts, cub scouts, girls scouts, brownies, the Pride of the Upper Cumberland Marching band, American legion members, many veterans, several fire and rescue vehicles, and many other participants.
The parade route ended in front of the Historic Smith County Courthouse. Hundreds of people gathered on the courthouse lawn to watch the Veteran’s Day program. The welcome was given by county mayor Michael Nesbitt. The colors were presented by the local boy scouts, girl scouts, cub scouts, and brownies. The national anthem was preformed by Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver. The guest speaker for the program was Mr. Joe Stout. Following the wreath being placed on the veteran’s memorial, taps was played, followed by closing remarks and a prayer.
