On the first Saturday of May, many members of the community are used to lacing up their sneakers to participate in the annual Race for Jordan, which is held at the Cordell Hull Dam each year in memory of Jordan Hackett.
Jordan Cage Hackett, son of Stephen and Karen Hackett, was born June 7, 2002, with a heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He passed away on October 14, 2002, following his second open-heart surgery.
This year, the race was postponed due to COVID-19, but event organizers say they have hopes that the race will be back and better than ever later in the year.
In the meantime, donations are still being accepted and can be mailed to P.O. Box 45 | Carthage, TN 37030. Please make checks payable to The Jordan Hackett Foundation.
According to a statement on the Jordan Hackett Foundation Facebook page, the plan is to make the annual donation to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and the Nashville Ronald McDonald House around Jordan’s birthday on June 7, as usual.
