(Smith County Insider Press) Carthage, Tenn. – On Monday, September 7, the Lieutenant of the Carthage City Police Department noticed a child standing in a parked vehicle during his patrol of the Wal-Mart parking lot. When he approached the vehicle, he noticed Ashley Zola was slumped down in the backseat. The 3-year-old child was able to start the vehicle. Zola stated that she had been there since 4 a.m. and she was waiting on someone. This was at approximately 11 a.m.
There was no food or drink in the vehicle, and the child told the Lieutenant that she had been sleeping in there. DCS advised for the child to be turned over to the grandparents who are currently caring for Zola’s other two children. Zola was placed under arrest for Child Neglect and was transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
