8th Annual Granville Cornbread & Moonshine Festival- May 1, 2021

April 20, 2021 – Granvile, Tenn. – The 8th Annual Granville Cornbread & Moonshine Festival will occur on May 1, 2021 at Tennessee’s Mayberry Town of Granville. This years event is greatly expanded beginning with a Cornbread Cook-off in the Pioneer Village.
Cornbread contest entries will be accepted from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Pioneer Village with the following categories: traditional cornbread, non-traditional cornbread, Aunt Bee’s Hoe Cakes and Cornmeal/Tn Spirits Dessert. Awards of $25.00 first place, $15.00 second place and $10.00 third place in each category. Each participant receives a Cornbread & Moonshine Festival T-Shirt and bag of Eller Grist Mill Cornmeal.
The event will feature the grist mill operating and serving free hot water cornbread. Cornbread Lane will feature a southern lunch and opportunity to taste the cornbread entries.
The 8th Annual Moonshine Festival will be operated by the Tennessee Whiskey Trail Guild in Granville’s Pioneer Village from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. on May 1st featuring nine Tennessee Distillers from all over Tennessee. Each distiller will have a booth set up where you can sample their products and will have product for sale. You must be age 21 to enter Moonshine Festival and a separate charge of $5.00 for the tasting.
The event will also feature The Def Leprechaun Band at Pruett Stage at 12 :00 and 2:00 p.m. Craftsmen will be operating in the Pioneer Village as well as all of the museums, shops, etc. of Granville will be open. The day will also include the Grand Opening of the Granville Whiskey Decanter Museum featuring one of the largest collections of Jim Beam Decanters in the United States.

Smith County 4-H Annual Livestock Clinic – June 11th, 2021

Smith County 4-H is excited to host our annual Livestock Clinic for sheep, cattle, and goat exhibitors! It will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Smith County Ag Center.
We have invited clinicians specialized in each species to work hands-on with the 4-H’ers. 4-H’ers do not have to own a show animal to participate! Anyone interested is welcome to come, watch, and learn. For those who do have animals, please feel free to bring them. We will cover topics like fitting and grooming, skillathon, and showmanship. We will provide lunch to those who participate. This is a great opportunity for youth who think they might be interested in showing livestock in the future. The clinic is open to grades 4-12. The 4-H Youth Development Program delivers programs through cooperative efforts of the University of Tennessee, Tennessee State University, and public and private sector volunteers. 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills. 4-H educational programs are offered to all youth, grades 4-12, on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
Carthage Rotary Club “All You Can Eat” Pancake Breakfast set for May 7th-8th, 2021

The Carthage Rotary Club will offer their Spring “all-you-can-eat” pancake breakfast on Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8 at 939 Upper Ferry Road (next to the Smith County Chamber of Commerce) in Carthage.
Breakfast will be served from 6:00 AM until 9:30 AM on Friday and from 7:00 AM until 9:30 AM on Saturday.
Tickets may be purchased for $6.00 from any Rotarian or at the door.
Rotarians will deliver carry-out orders to Carthage and Gordonsville for free. Proceeds will benefit the scholarships awarded to seniors at Smith County High School and at Gordonsville High School.
Town of Carthage Market Fest Rescheduled for Saturday, May 1st

The Town of Carthage will host Market Fest on May 1st, 2021 at the Carthage Walking track at 301 Industrial Drive, Carthage, TN. Community members may come out and enjoy music, food, crafts, and more!
Enjoy live performances from many bluegrass, old timey, and blues mucisians. Food trucks will be set up for community members to enjoy delicious treats, and vendor booths will be open from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.

2021 River City Ball Scheduled for April 24

Music, dancing, food and drinks, red carpet worthy dresses, and community fundraising.
The 2021 River City Ball is scheduled for Saturday, April 24 from 6-11pm on the Historic Courthouse Square in Carthage, TN. Postponed from last year due to COVID-19, the 3rd Annual River City Ball is a 21 and up, black tie fundraising affair, benefitting the Emmanuel House in Smith County.
Proceeds from the River City Ball will help the Emmanuel House in their mission to address the growing population of homeless women and children in Smith County by providing temporary housing, spiritual, mentorship, transportation, life skills training, education, and access to recovery and social services. Our generous River City Sponsors, Rackley Roofing and Citizens Bank, make this possible.
The River City Ball also provides a scholarship to graduating Seniors at each Smith County High School and Gordonsville High School. Interested high school Seniors can pick up applications from their guidance office. Carthage Family Chiropractic has generously sponsored these scholarships both this year and last.
The 1920’s themed evening will begin with a red carpet style entry and valet parking sponsored by Wilson County Motors. There will be multiple photo opportunities sponsored by Lish and Lish so attendees can capture their own Great Gatsby style moment. Guests will be served a delicious meal, enjoy live music with a dance floor, and can bid on items in an auction sponsored by The Kirby Team to raise additional funds for the Emmanuel House. The bar is sponsored by Serenity Networks and each ticket includes 2 complimentary alcoholic drinks. Fish Fry Fundraiser Benefiting the Smith County Pregnancy Help Center- Saturday April 17th, 2021

Community members may drive through the Smith County Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, April 17th from 4-7pm, to pick up food for the Fish Fry Fundraiser. This event will be benefiting the Smith County Pregnancy Help Center.
Meals include: Fried catfish, french fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, and white beans.

Ebel’s Tavern To Present American Legion Courthouse Concert Series All Summer Long

The American Legion will be starting a benefit concert series this Saturday. The good news? It goes all summer long! !The concert is free to the public, at the Smith County Courthouse, and all proceeds go to benefit the American Legion. The American Legion is a veteran based organization that helps veterans & their families during difficult times.
Sam Mullins will open at 6:00 for MJ Branham and the Outlaws at 7:00 Saturday April 17th. Bring a lawn chair, kick back, relax and enjoy some great music, right on the courthouse lawn in downtown Carthage.
