Defeated Creek Bluegrass Festival set for next weekend – June 11-12, 2021

Mark your calendars! The annual Defeated Creek Bluegrass Festival will be held at the Defeated Creek Marina and Campground on Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12, 2021.

Gates open at 6:00 p.m. on both nights, and live music will begin at 7:00 p.m. 

Admission to the festival is $3 per adult. 

The hosts of the festival recommend bringing your own lawn chair and coming prepared to have a great time!

The Defeated Creek Bluegrass Festival is a fundraiser for the Defeated Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and all proceeds from the event go to the Fire Department.

HG Staffing Job Fair For Dana Corp. On May 26th, 2021

HG Staffing will be hosting a job fair for Dana Corp on May 26th from 10-4 pm. They have several immediate openings for temp to hire positions. They are offering great pay and benefits up to $13.70 an hour and free drug screen and background checks.

High School diploma or GED is required.

Southside Lions Club 14th Annual “Drive for Sight” 2 Man Golf Scramble Set for June 19

The Southside Lions Club of Gordonsville is holding their 14th Annual “Drive for Sight” 2 Man Golf Scramble on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Southern Hills Golf Course in Baxter, Tennessee.

The scramble will begin at 8 am with a shotgun start. Entry fee is $60 per man – bring your own team.

Helping Hearts Fundraiser Pageant 2021

The Helping Hearts Fundraiser Pageant will be hosting our 4th annual pageant on August 7th, 2021 at the Smith County Ag Center . All proceeds will go to our local animal rescue, Waggin’ Tails. We will be hosting the event this year in memory of fallen officer Steve Reece, who was killed in the line of duty in 2019 . The name of Steve’s foundation is called “Steve’s Promise”

This year’s Smith County Fair on the River will be held June 28 thru July 3, 2021. You can check out the complete schedule of events below or at https://smithcountyfairtn.net/schedule/.

You don’t want to miss classic events like the Demolition Derby, the Fireworks Show, and Fairest of the Fair Pageants. This year, there are two new events, 4WD Mud Racing and the Community Band of Smith County Performance.

The 2020\2 Fair on the River will have no shortage of live entertainment. Check out the Carthage Rotary Club Stage and the Wilson Bank & Trust Community Kid’s Stage for nightly performances! On Thursday, July 1, country music star, Richie McDonald, will take the stage inside the Smith County Ag Center.

CASA Motorcycle Poker Run Fundraiser Rescheduled for May 8th

The fundraiser will be Saturday, May 8th. Registration will be at Putnam County Community Center from 8-9 a.m. After registration, riders will go to Cumberland, Overton, Smith, and then end back at Putnam County to determine the winner.

A map will be provided at registration.

The Registration fee is $25 dollars for single riders and $45 dollars for double riders.

Riders will be at SmithCounty Ag Center from 10:30-12:30.

Smith County’s Cattleman Association Open Beef and Steer Show- Saturday, May 8th, 2021

The Smith County Cattleman Association Open Beef and Steer Show will be Saturday, May 8th at the Smith County Ag Center. Check in is from 8-11 Am. The Sportsmanship show starts starts at 11:30. Prizes will be awarded for showmanship. There will be prize money for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

They are seeking sponsors for the event. A bronze sponsor is from $50-249, with their name announced and listed on the board. The Silver sponsor is from $250-499, with their name announced, listed on the board, and the ability to set up a display. The Gold Sponsor is $500 +, with their name announced, listed on the board, the ability to set up a display, and ability to put their sign in the show ring.

SCHS Class of 1970 Class Reunion-May 8th

The 50th Year Class Reunion of the Class of 1970, which was canceled last spring due to COVID-19, is rescheduled. The Reunion will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the 106 Clover Street Venue in Granville, TN.

If classmates have already prepaid last year, the fee will be applied to this year’s reunion. Anyone who has not already registered and paid needs to register and send a $20 per individual ( $40 per couple) check to SCHS Class of 70, 42 Sunny View Ln, Carthage, TN 37030. The deadline to send your money is April 24.

American Legion Post 57 BBQ Fundraiser set for May 15

On May 15, 2021, the American Legion Post 57 will be hosting a BBQ Fundraiser on the Historic Smith County Courthouse Lawn in Downtown Carthage, TN.

The event will be from 12pm until 8pm. From 12pm-4pm will be carryout plates only, and from 4pm-8pm there will be seating available along with live music, cornhole boards, and activities for kids. Local bands are set to perform beginning at 4pm.

The menu will consist of pulled pork, chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad and desserts. The price will be $10 per plate or $6 for a sandwich and drink only.
