‘Tennessee Maneuvers Remembered’ presented by the Smith County Historical Tourism Society is set for this Saturday, May 14

The Smith County Historical Tourism Society is hosting an event called “Tennessee Maneuvers Remembered” set for this Saturday, May 14, 2022. The event will be held in downtown Carthage on and around the Historic Smith County Courthouse Lawn.
The event will consists of living history, military & vintage vehicles, 1940s entertainment, educational activities for children, artifact displays, authors and vendor area featuring handmade items, and much more.
The event begins at 9:45am and there will be continuous activities going on all day until around 4:00pm. Below is the schedule of activities:
- 9:45-9:55am – “Reveille” & Flag Raising – Courthouse Front Lawn
- 10:05-10:25am – Welcome & Announcements – Courthouse Porch
- 10:35-10:45am – Trio Singing/SCHS Jazz Band – Courthouse Porch
- 10:50-11:00am – Machine Gun Nest Demonstration – Military Living History
- 11:05-11:25am – Tin Can Stomp & Games – Homefront Living History
- 11:05-11:30am – Jackson County Jazz Band – Parking Lot Stage
- 11:35-11:45am – Commemorative Air Force Fly-By – Skies over Carthage
- 11:50-Noon – Machine Gun Nest Demonstration – Military Living History
- 12:05-12:25pm – Introductions and Recognitions – Courthouse Porch
- 12:30-1:15pm – 101st Airborne Jazz Combo Band & Dance with the Battlin’ Betties – Parking Lot Stage
- 1:05-1:25pm – Tin Can Stomp & Games – Homefront Living History
- 1:35-1:45pm – Smith County High School Jazz Band – Parking Lot Stage
- 1:35-2:00pm – Quilt of Valor Presentations – Author’s & Collector’s Show
- 2:05-2:15pm – Machine Gun Nest Demonstration – Military Living History
- 2:05-3:25pm – 101st Airborne Jazz Combo Band – Parking Lot Stage
- 3:05-3:25pm – Tin Can Stomp & Games – Homefront Living History

SCHS Soccer Youth Skills Camp set for June 7-9, 2022

The SCHS Soccer Youth Skills Camp for Kindergarten- 8th grade for the 2021-2022 school year, will be on June 7th, 8th, and 9th from 9:00 am.- 12:00 pm.
- Players will learn individual and team skills appropriate to their age and skill level.
- Players will learn in a fun environment with players in the same age group.
- Players will be given instruction to help them increase their skill level and understanding of the game
- The camp will emphasize individual skills and how to apply them to the team setting
- Parents are welcome to watch and talk to coaches about the game.
Requirements: All players are required to wear shin guards and appropriate shoes (cleats or tennis shoes) at all times, and to bring a soccer ball.
Registration due by May 20 in order to receive a camp soccer ball. You may turn in registration the first day of camp but will not receive a camp soccer ball.
If you have more than one child that would like to participate. Please contact one of the coaches for more information to help with that.

National Day of Prayer Celebration at Historic Courthouse

A community effort to celebrate the National Day of Prayer will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 4 p.m. at the Historic Courthouse in Downtown Carthage.
The National Day of Prayer that we know today was a co-founded effort between the United States Congress and President Harry S. Truman. The holiday was signed into law by President Truman, and every president since has signed a proclamation that encourages Americans to pray on and celebrate this day. The national holiday has always been the first Thursday of May every year since it was founded in 1952.
Social Media and Our Youth Event May 9, 2022

The Smith County School Board of Education will host the first community outreach event called Social Media and Our Youth on Monday, May 9, 2022 6 p.m. at Smith County High School. The event will feature information parents should know regarding the dangers of social media, parent liability, and popular apps.
The event will be live streamed, courtesy of the Smith County Insider. If parents are unable to attend, a plan is in place try to allow people to log in and ask our expert panel questions. More information will be sent home through the schools or you can all 615-735-9625

Carthage Rotary Club “All You Can Eat” Pancake Breakfast set for May 6th-7th, 2022

The Carthage Rotary Club will offer their Spring “all-you-can-eat” pancake breakfast on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 at 939 Upper Ferry Road (next to the Smith County Chamber of Commerce) in Carthage. Breakfast will be served from 6:00 AM until 9:30 AM on Friday and from 7:00 AM until 9:30 AM on Saturday. Tickets may be purchased for $6.00 from any Rotarian
or at the door. Rotarians will deliver carry-out orders to Carthage and Gordonsville for free. Proceeds will benefit the scholarships awarded to seniors at Smith County High School and at Gordonsville High School.
Smith County’s Cattleman Association Spring Showdown set for May 7, 2022

The Smith County Cattleman Association Spring Showdown will be Saturday, May 7th at the Smith County Ag Center. Check in is from 8-11 Am. The Sportsmanship show starts starts at 11:30. Prizes will be awarded for showmanship. There will be prize money for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Community Band of Smith County presents ‘A Night at the Movies’ on May 2, 2022

The Community Band of Smith County will host “A Night of the Movies” concert on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at the Smith County High School Auditorium. Admissions is free.
The Community Band of Smith County is made up of musicians of all ages from Smith County. Come and enjoy the band’s first stand-alone public concert as they perform soundtracks from some of your favorite movies.
