UT Extension News: Smith County 4-H to Host Multi-County Livestock Clinic

Smith County 4-H is excited to host our annual Livestock Clinic for sheep, cattle, and goat exhibitors! It will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Smith County Ag Center. This year, we are partnering with Trousdale and Clay County to host the event.

We have invited clinicians specializing in each species to work hands-on with the 4-H’ers. 4-H’ers do not have to own a show animal to participate! Anyone interested is welcome to come, watch, and learn. For those who do have animals, please feel free to bring them. We will cover topics like fitting and grooming, skillathon, and showmanship.

We will provide lunch to those who participate. There is a cost of $10 per participant but due to the generosity of local donors, we are covering the registration fee for Smith County 4-H members. This is a great opportunity for youth who think they might be interested in showing livestock in the future. The clinic is open to those who will be in grades 4-12 this fall. To register, call the Smith County Extension Office at 615-735-2900 by May 30.

The 4-H Youth Development Program delivers programs through cooperative efforts of the University of Tennessee, Tennessee State University, and public and private sector volunteers. 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H educational programs are offered to all youth, grades 4-12, on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
