August Art Show at the Carthage Junction Depot features Sutherland Photography

Photography by Chuck and Kelli Sutherland will be the featured artists at the August 20th Art Show at the Carthage Junction Depot. Kelli and Chuck Sutherland are both accomplished photographers with over 25 years of combined experience.

Chuck’s photos capture the natural beauty of geography with an emphasis on rocks, water, weather and other geographic phenomena. Kelli, a recent transplant to the area, is known for her use of dramatic colors. Her highly evocative images focus on the feeling of a place.

Canvases of limited edition prints from both artists will be on sale.

Free Summer Concert Series – Saturday, July 30th 6 p.m.

The FREE Summer Concert Series continues this Saturday, July 30th on the lawn of the Historic Courthouse. Sam Mullins will open the concert at 6 p.m. The Ransom Notes will play at 7 p.m. The American Legion Post 57 and Smith County Chamber of Commerce co-host the event and Rokabilly Coffee is the business sponsor.

The event will also coincide with the Back to School Bash hosted by the Smith County Events Committee which will feature a backpack and school supplies give-away along with several kids activities, yard games, popcorn and cotton candy.

It will be a fun evening for the whole family. Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket to enjoy the concert.

Back to School Bash this Saturday, July 30th 4-8 p.m.

The Smith County Events Committee will host the “Back to School Bash” July 30th in front of Historic Downtown Courthouse. This is a FREE event that will include backpacks and school supplies give-away. There will also be a free popcorn and cotton candy, a bounce area, yard games and other kid activities. Several candidates for office will participate in a a “Soak-a-Candidate” booth.

The Back to School Bash begins at 4 p.m. and will continue to 8 p.m. If it rains there is a plan to host the event indoors. Check out the Smith County Events Committee Facebook page for updated information.

Smith County Events Committee to host “Back to School Bash” July 30th in front of Historic Downtown Courthouse. This is a FREE event that will include backpack and school supplies give-away, There will also be a bounce area, yard games and other kid activities. Several candidates for office will participate in a a “Soak-a-Candidate” booth. The Mom’s Club of Smith County will sponsor a diaper changing and nursing station and the Smith County Girl Scouts will provide some kids activities and first aid station.

The Back to School Bash begins at 4 p.m. and will continue to 8 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m. the Summer Concert Series will continue with a FREE concert featuring Sam Mullins at 6 p.m. and Ransom Notes at 7:30 p.m.

Bring the whole family for an evening full of some fun free events.

HOPEFEST at Smith County Ag Center this Saturday, July 16th

The Smith County Drug Prevention Coalition will host HOPEFEST Celebrate Recovery-Celebrate Life at the Smith County Ag Center this Saturday, July 16,2022 from 4-6 pm. There will be free food, games, inflatable kid rides, live music and vendors. The Carthage Church or God will sponsor a backpack give-away. Supplies for the backpack give-away are limited advanced registration is encouraged at eventbrite.

Prevention education and overdose reversal training will be available. Attendees can register to win a free TV. Contact the Smith County Drug Prevention at the number above or check out the facebook page for more information.

Free Summer Concert on the lawn of the Historic Courthouse July 16

Scott Steele and Stoopid Kool and the Kiss My Brass Horns will be the entertainers at the July 16, 2022 Free Summer Concert. Scott Steele will perform at 6 p.m. and Stoopid Kool and the Kiss My Brass Horns will perform at 7 p.m. The concert will be held on the steps and lawn of the Historic Smith County Courthouse in downtown Carthage.

This concert is sponsored by Tom Arnold Construction. The Summer Concert series is hosted by the American Legions Post 57 and Smith County Chamber of Commerce.

Community Pool Party Saturday July 23rd

A Community Pool Party will be hosted by The Stephens Center, The Pregnancy Help Center and The Smith County Health Department on Saturday, July 23rd from 5-7 p.m. The event is free but space is limited so registration is encouraged. You can register using the QR code or at Eventbrite Carthage Community Pool Party.

There will be information booths, vendors and free popsicles. Swim for free and enjoy the fun.

Get ready! The 2022 Smith County Fair on the River begins next week!

We hope that everyone plans to attend the 2022 Smith County Fair on the River! The fair will be held July 2 thru July 9, 2022.

This year’s fair includes two new events including the Apple Pie Baking Contest and the Rally on the River. You also don’t want to miss classic events like the Demolition Derby, the Fireworks Show, and Fairest of the Fair Pageants.

The 2022 Fair on the River will have no shortage of live entertainment. Check out the Carthage Rotary Club Stage and the Wilson Bank & Trust Community Kid’s Stage for nightly performances! On Thursday, July 7, Darryl Worley will take the stage inside the Smith County Ag Center.
