Second Harvest Mobile Food Truck Wednesday July 26th

The Second Harvest Food Truck will be at the Smith County Agriculture Center on Wednesday, July 26th. The truck generally arrives approximately 10 a.m. Volunteers work to unload the truck and get the food ready for pick-up shortly after. Food is distributed until it is gone. Cars line up around the Ag Center early. Those hoping to receive food at this distribution are encouraged to be in line no later than 10 a.m.

The food trucks are sponsored by the Hunger Relief Fund of Smith County and grants from Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN. Churches, businesses and individuals donate to the hunger relief fund all year. Generally two dates are scheduled each month. Fall Youth Soccer League Sign-ups

The Smith County Youth Soccer League (ages 4-11 yrs old as of August 2022) is starting registration for the Fall 2023 season! You can register at the Chamber of Commerce, Wednesday July 26th from 5 to 7pm, Friday July 28th from 5 to 7 pm , Wednesday August 2nd from 5 to 7pm and Friday August 4th 5 to 7pm. You can also pick up, fill out the forms and drop them off at Smith County Drug with the $45 registration.

The season is expected to start after Labor Day will last six weeks with games on Saturdays at Crump Paris Park. For more information please check Smith County Soccer League on Facebook. 

Commodities Distribution on July 31st Smith County Ag Center

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for Smith County on Monday, July 31, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Smith County Agricultural Center. Sign-up will be available at the distribution site, or online at uchra.org/communityservices.

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, sex, color, national origin, religion, or disability in admission to, access to, or operations of its programs, services, or activities. This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.

Free School Supplies & Backpacks at the Back to School Bash on Saturday, July 29th

The Smith County Events Committee is excited to host their 2nd Back to School Bash on Saturday, July 29th at the Historic Smith County Courthouse from 2-8 p.m. Public, private and homeschool students and families are invited to participate. Free school supplies and backpacks will be distributed. Yard Games and activities will also be part of the fun on the Courthouse Lawn.

Last year over 800 backpacks and $10,000 of school supplies were distributed to students at the event and through the schools at the start of the year. Additionally the SC Events Committee donated food items to fill the schools’ food pantries.

Sponsors for the event (listed above) make this event a success. Lists from various schools and classes will be available to help guide the students’ families to select the supplies needed. It will be a fun filled event that is designed to help Smith County students and families get a good start in the new school year.

HOPEFEST Recovery Festival at Smith County Ag Center this Saturday, July 29th

The Smith County Drug Prevention Coalition will host HOPEFEST Celebrate Recovery-Celebrate Life at the Smith County Ag Center Saturday, July 29 ,2023 from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. There will be free food, games, inflatable kid rides, live music and vendors. The Carthage Church or God will sponsor a backpack give-away. Supplies for the backpack give-away are limited .

SCHS Cheer hosts Little Owl Cheer Camp

Smith County High School Cheerleaders will host Little Owl Cheer Camp on Saturday, July 22nd from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. for future cheerleaders PreK -8th grade. Participants will learn cheers, jumps, dances and stunting skills. Registration is $40. Contact any SCHS Cheerleader of Mary Baker at the email above.

Blood Drive at Smith County Chamber of Commerce Monday, July 10, 2023

The next opportunity to donate blood and help save a life is coming soon. Plan to give blood at the Smith County Chamber of Commerce – Community Room on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 12-6 p.m., 939 Upper Ferry Road, Carthage, TN. Caney Fork Abate will host a Family Fun Day on July 15th

The Caney Fork Abate will host a Family Fun Day on July 15th from 10 a.m. – 4p.m. at the National Guard Armory, Gordonsville. The event will include a car and bike show, food, swap meet, venders, auction and kids games and activities.

Admissions is free. There is a $10 entry fee for participants in the car and bike show. There is no vender fee with a donation of $25 to the auction. An entree of hamburger, hot dog, bbq sandwich or chicken tenders with 1 side will be sold for $5. Additional sides and drinks will be sold for $1.

Kayak 4 Miles on the Caney on the 4th of July

The Kayak Race is a featured event at the Smith County Fair and is sponsored by the BoyScout Troop 367. Registration will begin at the Stonewall Boat Ramp on Trousdale Ferry Pike in Gordonsville at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4th The race begins at 2 p.m.

All paddlers are welcome. Registration is $20 per person and includes shuttle and admission to the Smith County Fair. Prizes will be awarded for top 3 places in four divisions including men, women, jr. women and jr. men. You must bring your own kayak, paddles and life jacket.
