Resolution 803 calls for 31 days of prayer and fasting in Tennessee beginning July 1, 2024. It passed overwhelmingly in the state Senate 27-1 and in the House 82-6, and was signed by Governor Bill Lee.

The legislators also acknowledged the many crises and problems plaguing our state and America and that seeking God through personal “humbling” and “penitence” is a way to resolve those issues. The legislators named many specific moral issues that have been causing Tennesseans and Americans suffering, such as violence committed upon its citizens by other citizens and non-citizens; violent crime in schools; the “violent evil” of human trafficking “that enslaves lives;” deadly fentanyl which “flows uncontrollably” across the southern border; drug addiction that “overwhelms families;” 9,000 children in the state in need of foster care; and “evidence of corruption in our federal government” which impacts every Tennessean.

A special event will be held at the Historic Smith County Courthouse at 2 p.m. on July 16th to specifically pray for Smith County, Tennessee and the Nation in regards to the the issues addressed in the resolution.

The Micro Wrestling Federation, as seen on Discovery Channel’s hit TV show “Big, Little Brawlers”, will be coming to Smith County on July 28, 2024. The two hour show begins at 6 p.m. at the Smith County Ag Center.

For His Glory Ministries will host a free food give-away on Saturday July 27th from 11am- 2pm or until food runs out. It will held on the lawn of the Historic Courthouse in Carthage at 211 Main Street N. Carthage.

They will be offering a hot meal featuring a hot subs. Additionally clothes and care bags will be available. Everything is free.

Join us for a fun-filled day of VBS where we will learn about how God is our Rock! We will be studying lessons from the Bible that demonstrate the strength and power of our God. All beef has been provided by local producers here in Smith County.

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for Smith County on Tuesday, July 23, from 9 until 11 a.m. at the Smith County Agricultural Center. Sign-up will be available at the distribution site.

Living Water Ministries will host a Back to School Giveaway on July 13th from 12-2 p.m. at the pavilion located at the Church on 13 New Middleton Highway in Gordonsville, TN. Backpacks, school supplies and clothing will be available at no charge.

The 2024 Miss and Mister Toddler Fairest of the Fair Pageants were held at the Smith County Fair on Wednesday night, July 3rd, 2024.

Mr. Toddler Fairest of the Fair 2024 was Crew Malone and 1st Runner up was Waylon Ray Lancaster.

The winner of the 2024 Smith County Miss Toddler Fairest of the Fair Pageant was Collins Everleigh Johnson, 1st Runner Up was Wylie Denney and 2nd Runner Up was Rosalyn Pearl Horton.

Rosalyn Horton was also crowned the People’s Choice Award and Most Photogenic was awarded to Rayvn Stallings.

Eleven girls participated in the 2-3 year-old age division and 2 contestants participated in the 2-3 year-old boys division.

The Second Harvest Food Truck will be at the Smith County Agriculture Center on Friday, July 12, 2024. The truck generally arrives by approximately 9 a.m. Volunteers work to unload the truck and get the food ready for pick-up. Food is distributed until it is gone. Cars line up around the Ag Center early. Those hoping to receive food at this distribution are encouraged to be in line no later than 9 a.m.

The food trucks are sponsored by the Hunger Relief Fund of Smith County and grants from Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN. Churches, businesses and individuals donate to the hunger relief fund all year. Generally two dates are scheduled each month. “Growing in the Sun” will be the theme of Vacation Bible School hosted by Carthage Full Gospel Church July 10-12, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. The Church is located at 109 First Avenue W, Carthage, TN. VBS is available for youth 4 years old – eighth grade.
