SCHS Soccer loses to Stone Memorial

April 15, 2018

The Owls played a non-district match last week against Stone Memorial, a AA school from Cumberland County. The Owls played hard and had the match tied until about the 65th minute when Stone Memorial took an Owl set piece and turned it into a counter attack and scored. The Owls could not regain any momentum and eventually gave up 2 more goals losing 5-2.

The Owls opened their scoring with a shot from Brett Gregory that hit the cross bar and was collected by Rolando Cruz who put it back into the middle. After several touches from multiple players the ball crossed the goal line to even the score at 1-1. It remained 1-1 until half time. The Owls second goal came from a series of nice passes in the middle and a nicely weighted pass up the middle to Zack Mendez who calmly finished his one-on-one opportunity.

“This is a good test to see where we are against good opponents. Stone Memorial is a bigger program with good players. I thought that we played very well except for 3-4 plays that cost us. I hope these types of games prepare our kids for the District and Region tournaments,” Coach Jenkins said.

The Owls play 6 district matches in the next 20 days.
