Jennings Earns TSWA Pitcher of the Week Honors

After a 2-1 weekend on the diamond, the Middle Tennessee softball team earned a Player of the Week honor from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. Cori Jennings picked up MT’s first TSWA Pitcher of the Week accolade of the season.

This is Jenning’s second Player of the Week award of the season, she earned a C-USA Pitcher of the Week nod on Feb. 19, after throwing a no-hitter against UT-Martin.

Jocelynn De La Cruz got MT’s TSWA first Player of the Week honor back on Feb. 19.

Jennings registered a win and a save in three appearances for the Blue Raiders, giving up just two runs on eight hits in 13.0 innings. The Brush Creek, Tenn., native got the final two outs for a save against Belmont, walking one and striking out one versus the Bruins.

The senior tossed a complete game in the first contest of a doubleheader against Florida Atlantic, giving up one run on four hits with five strikeouts. She allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings in the second contest.

She is now 15-8 with two saves and a 2.23 ERA in 138.0 innings this season, striking out 83 in 28 appearances.

De La Cruz’s TSWA honor came following MT’s 4-1 outing during the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational II.

De La Cruz batted .389 (7-for-18) with three doubles, one home run, 11 RBIs and three runs scored in five games for the Blue Raiders. The Lake Elsinore, Calif., native singled, drove in two runs and scored another versus McNeese State and collected two hits with a double and three RBIs against Eastern Michigan.

She hit a three-run homer versus Kent State and was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored against Marist.

Jennings award is MT’s second all-time TSWA Pitcher of the Week award while De La Cruz’s is Middle’s fourth all-time TSWA Player of the Week award.
