Hackett receives DTC “Player of the Year” award

November 21, 2017

Each season, DTC Sports selects an outstanding football player from the DTC service area to receive the DTC Communications Player of the Year Award. This year, the honor went to Smith County High School senior quarterback, Carson Hackett.

Carson was chosen based on his outstanding performance throughout the 2017 regular season, in which he completed 152 of 212 passes, for 1,886 yards and 23 touchdowns. Additionally, Carson rushed for 669 yards on 115 carries – an average of 5.8 yards per carry – with seven more touchdowns. In addition to his 2,555 yards of total offense and 30 touchdowns, Carson also recorded 43 total tackles on defense, logged one fumble recovery and one interception. His efforts, combined with that of his teammates, led the Smith County Owls to a 7-3 overall record in the regular season and a 4-1 mark in Region 4-3A, which produced Smith County’s first Region Championship in football since the 2011 season.

In addition to Carson’s individual award, DTC Communications also presented Smith County High School head football coach Mike Dickerson and the Owl football program a check for $500 for having this year’s DTC Communications Player of the Year. Tom Duggin of DTC Sports made the presentations to Hackett and Coach Dickerson, Friday afternoon, November 3, during a pep rally prior to the Owls’ playoff opener with Sweetwater.

This year marked the second time a Smith County High School football player had won the DTC Player of the Year award, joining former Owl running back and linebacker, Jalen Manning, who won the first-ever award. Other past winners include Lucas Phillips and Steven Jennings of DeKalb County, and Seth Price of Watertown.

DTC Sports and DTC Communications are proud to recognize Smith County High School senior quarterback Carson Hackett as the 2017 DTC Communications Player of the Year, and proudly congratulate both Carson and the Smith County High School football team for their outstanding accomplishments this season.

DTC Communications is proud to continue their long-standing support of its communities and the athletic programs within these communities.
